American Public Health Association 136th Annual Meeting
October 25-29, 2008, San Diego, CA
The San Diego Convention Center (SDCC) will house the Public Health Expo, Registration, the Opening General Session, Poster Sessions as well as hundreds of scientific sessions, social hours and business meetings. Scientific sessions have also been scheduled at two nearby hotels.

2008 MWPHA Annual Meeting
The Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association held its 2008 Annual Meeting on April 15, 2008. The conference theme-- The Triple Threat: HIV, Substance Use & Mental Illness, focused on addressing the social determinants of health related to HIV, substance use and mental health by discussing best practices and recommendations for next steps.

Updated Statistics on HIV in the District of Columbia
On November 26, 2007, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty announced the first-ever data on HIV in the District of Columbia and updated AIDS statistics last reported five years ago that show striking findings on the severity of the District’s epidemic.

The Mayor also announced steps to reduce the number of children born with HIV, increase testing and earlier treatment for people before they get sick, and respond to the disproportionate impact on women and the African-American community.
