Jobs with Justice recognizes MWPHA with the “I’ll Be There” Award |
Every year DC Jobs with Justice holds the "I'll Be There" Awards, where they recognize organizations and individuals in the area for outstanding solidarity. It is my pleasure to share that this year the Metro Washington Public Health Association will be one of the awardees! We were nominated in recognition of our recent efforts advocating for housing for persons with HIV/AIDS, as well as for years of solidarity with poor and working people in DC, and on-going efforts to involve public health community in issues of social and economic justice through a health disparities lense.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 11th from 5:30 -7:30pm at the AFL-CIO building, 815 16th St. NW. All MWPHA members and allies are welcome to attend. The Governing Council is truly honored and as your new President I am honored to accept the award on behalf of MWPHA. To learn more about Jobs with Justice please visit their website.

Please check out how reporter Amanda Hess aka "The Sexist" from the Washington City Paper also discovered how CVS continues to make condoms inaccessible to DC residents. The Save Lives: Free the Condoms Coalition is a grassroots community partnership working to reduce health disparities in the District of Columbia. The Coalition's goal is to increase condom accessibility in the Washington, DC area by removing potential barriers to condom access. The Coalition is working under the auspices of the Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association. You can stay updated on the project by visiting their blog.
